Key Concepts Overview
What are Isotopes?
Atoms of the same element with the same atomic number but different mass numbers.
Example: Hydrogen has three isotopes - Protium (¹H), Deuterium (²H), and Tritium (³H)
What are Isobars?
Atoms of different elements with different atomic numbers but the same mass number.
Example: Calcium-40 and Argon-40 both have mass number 40
Applications
Isotopes have important uses in various fields:
- Nuclear reactors (Uranium isotopes)
- Medical treatments (Cobalt, Iodine)
- Scientific dating (Carbon-14)
